You can stop holding your breath because the rumors are true – the Canadian Country Music Association Awards are headed to Calgary next year!
Country music superstar Paul Brandt made the announcement after unveiling his Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame plaque at a special ceremony held in the musical jewel of our city – the National Music Centre. The ceremony marked the culmination of the announcement of Brandt’s induction to the HOF in 2017 and Calgary’s own country boy was nothing short of proud to be the first to welcome the CCMA Awards back to his home town.
The CCMA Awards were last held in Calgary in 2005 and their return to Canada’s country music capital has been highly anticipated. Since the inception of the awards show in 1977, Alberta has hosted the event no less than 15 times.
And the awards will bring more than just an evening of western glitz and glam to YYC – show organizers also alluded to the many exciting musical treats Calgarians will be invited enjoy throughout Country Music Week (yes that’s right – a whole week!) which will be held September 5-8, leading up to the CCMA Awards Show on September 8. From a songwriters’ series to FanFest to workshops, Albertans will have the opportunity to experience the best that Canada’s country music industry has to offer.
This year, the CCMA Awards will be held in Hamilton, ON, so While we await their arrival in the Prairie Province, we will leave you with these immortal words: “It doesn’t matter where I go, this place will always be my home. I have been Alberta bound for all my life, and I’ll be Alberta bound until I die.” And yes CCMA, we’re looking at you.
