Places to Find Chic Stampede Wear in YYC

It’s commonly perceived that for 10 days of the year Calgarians throw on their wranglers and fancy cowboy boots and pretend to be true-blue cowboys. This is not entirely untrue! However, this year we are in luck, as a western trend has snuck its way onto the runways and into our everyday style. Plaid shirts, jean vests, white frilly dresses, the classic Canadian tuxedo and daisy dukes make up the typical “cowboy/girl uniform” that frequent the grounds year after year. This year we challenge you to take your look up a notch and add some high fashion and a lick of style to your stampede attire. Summer festivals have created their own unique style that is becoming a growing trend in fashion and there is no reason the Stampede can’t do the same – it is the greatest show on earth after all!

Females, try color blocking, distressed baggy denim, suede accessories and loose silhouettes in sheer fabrics with bold patterns and varying necklines. Play around with different accessories such as new takes on the bolo tie, bandanas and body chains.

Males, try slimmer fitting jeans with variations of the classic button up in different prints, fabrics and styles, while mixing and matching with accessories and a western style fedora, a new take on the white brimmed cowboy hat.

Check out these Calgary shops for pieces to add to your wardrobe that are chic, fashion forward and true to your personal style, taking your stampede look from western blah to yeehaw!

Other Ideas!

Two other great local boutiques to check out for modern stampede wear are Cody and Sioux, new to historic Inglewood and Cabin 108 in Banff!

If you don’t have the budget to go shopping for a new western wardrobe, raid your parent’s or even grandparent’s closets. There is nothing like a true authentic rhinestone studded vest or fringed button up from the 60’s/70’s to really make an outfit!

Calgary also has some amazing vintage shops that you can sift through for one-of-a-kind styles and pieces. Check out Fond Boutique, The Clothing Bar Boutique, A Vintage Affair and Danielle’s Consignment Boutique, for well curated and quality vintage wear.

Last of all, you can always rely on the classic Smithbuilt Hats, Alberta Boot and Lammles, if that’s true to your personal style. However, we would love to see some high fashion and chic looks hit the stampede grounds this year and put the Calgary Stampede on the Canadian and better yet, International fashion map!

Happy Stampeding!
